Semmler Technology Grant

With this setup, the iPad my be used for exercises addressing student inquiry, knowledge construction, and then critical thinking. Student inquiry refers to learning through asking questions. Knowledge construction refers to learning through experience and reflection. Critical thinking is determining judgement on claims, either accepting, rejecting, or suspending the claim based on prior learning. Using Apps such as The Elements, StarWalk, and Brain Pro (for those teaching science), the iPad can change the way students experience information; leading to new possibilities for learning.

Instructional Technology in Teach and Learning Grant

The use of a computer, wireless digital tablet, Bluetooth headset, synchronous web conferencing software, and projector can further the instruction of any class (lectured based or online). A faculty member can replace a physical whiteboard with WebEx software. The computer and synchronous web conferencing software (WebEx) enables the recording of class lectures and simultaneous online instruction. The wireless digital tablet allows for transferable and hands-on student participation. The digital notes permit expanded demonstration of subject material. This technological process can be employed by faculty to increase the understanding and retention of course subject matter.
